Reversing Diabetes Symptoms

Diabetes is a chronic condition: once you have it, you have it for life. Reversing diabetes isn't possible -- but you can reverse the symptoms of diabetes.

That might sound like a small difference, but it's actually an important one: diabetes, once diagnosed, will always be with you. The signs of diabetes may ease or disappear with a combination of lifestyle changes and medication or insulin... but if you were to go back to your previous lifestyle and stop taking medication, the symptoms of diabetes would re-appear.

Many people with type 2 diabetes have successfully removed the need to take medication or insulin by:

  • Making dietary changes: eating a healthy balanced diet, on a regular meal/snack schedule, with the same amounts of carbohydrates in each meal or snack to keep blood sugar levels stable throughout the day. A dietician can assist in developing an individualized diabetes eating plan.

  • Getting regular exercise: exercise lowers blood glucose while also providing additional benefits such as improved cholesterol, lowered blood pressure, better circulation, and more.

  • Losing weight: being overweight can lead to insulin resistance, your body's inability to use insulin properly. Even losing just 5 to 10% of your body weight can be a big boost to your health.

While curing or reversing diabetes isn't currently possible, you can significantly improve your health and lower your risk of diabetes-related complications.
